MGCC RACE SUB-COMMITTEE REPORT

MG CAR CLUB RACE SUB COMMITTEE - POINTS FOR COMPETITORS

The MG Car Club has had a terrific year of motor racing in 2009 and would like to thank and congratulate everybody involved in what has been a difficult year.     Six excellent meetings all of which ran the entire programme within time and which all made a better than budgeted result.    Nobody seriously hurt and some excellent fun and camaraderie. That’s what Club motor racing should be about.    Well done everybody.

However not all was sweetness and light and Competitors could do a lot to help.    Some of these points were raised at the Coordinators meeting by the Race Sub Committee that they wished brought to the attention of competitors in MG Car Club events for 2010.

LATE ENTRIES

During 2009 late entries have caused significant delay in getting the event programme and time table finalised.    One of the worst was Silverstone where at the closing date only just over half the final entry had been received.    Clearly this cannot go on.    The Club has made the point in the past three years that no entry fee is taken until the closing date, even if the entry has been made months before.    Secondly entries can be withdrawn up to TWO days before the event without charge providing all tickets are returned.   The only alternative is to reinforce the late entry fee with extra charges rigorously applied.    We are for obvious reasons reluctant to do this.    We need competitors help PLEASE.   Enter in good time otherwise entry fees will rise to cover the extra work involved.   Some Championships use annual entry forms.    We would like every Championship to do this for the MG Car Club events.

ASSEMBLY

At a number of events this year competitors have been very slow coming into the assembly with the result that we have lost valuable track time.    At least two races were cut in length due to this.    Races starting immediately after lunch are the worst.   In order to give every body as much track time as is possible we again need your cooperation.   When we say be in assembly by a certain time we do actually mean be in the assembly, those not complying may well find themselves starting from the pit lane or not at all.

GREEN FLAG LAPS

These are to be used for warming up the car and the driver, not demonstrating how to drive to the local supermarket.   At least two races have again this year been reduced in time due to extremely slow green flag laps, as an example over FIVE minutes with a sub one and one half minute lap.   Again offenders WILL find their race time cut in 2010.

SAFETY CAR

Getting better but still with competitors who at the first sight of the SC Boards instantly go into “shopping mode” and disregard the requirement to “KEEP UP” with the car ahead or indeed to catch up.   On occasions the safety car speed has been reduced to no more than 30mph in order to try and consolidate the grid.    In future offenders who take no notice of the instructions and the “Close Up” board will be given either a drive through penalty or the black flag.    Its really up to the driver, there isn’t anybody else in there!!!

STOP and GO and DRIVE THROUGH PENALTY

The MGCC intend to operate both of these penalties at the discretion of the Clerk in 2010. Read the instructions when they are issued.

LAST LAP BOARD

MGCC will trial not using this on timed races in 2010.
